Mirage is a visual application that produces real-time graphics that react to the music. It is available as a plug-in for the popular audio player WinAmp. It is the third visual plug-in by Dylan Ivens (the two previous were released in 2000). Mirage takes the feedback algorithm to a new level by using completely dynamic transformations, allowing for versatile visual effects and smooth animation.
Mirage is built on top of an efficient OpenGL-accelerated engine that allows high performance graphics at any resolution. The most exciting in this is that the computation power saved by using dedicated graphics hardware allows to compute and modify transformations in real-time, making the visual experience much richer than with classic, static feedback-based visualizers.
Using OpenGL also enables Mirage to benefit from transform & lighting power of the graphics accelerator which makes it possible to display animated 3D models really fast. Of course, there are many other exciting features exposed by OpenGL. These possibilities are being investigated for future releases of Mirage.
